Interior design and interior decoration are two very different areas, according to a new study.
According to the study, home design, in contrast to interior decoration, is a more specialized profession with less access to financing, and it tends to attract people from the urban center.
The findings, published in the prestigious American Journal of Sociology, show that the urban centers of Africa have become a place where home design is still relatively popular, especially in terms of the prestige of the profession, and in contrast, home decoration in the United States has been on the decline.
The researchers surveyed over a dozen home design professions, including interior designers, interior decorators, interior artists, and interior decorating technicians.
They looked at the occupations, as well as their pay, benefits, and social connections.
The study showed that interior decorator salaries are much higher in African countries, and that the profession is less accessible to the middle class and underprivileged, as is the case in the US.
The research found that the median income for a home designer in Africa was $62,200 in 2015, according the report.
That is an increase of 13 percent from the 2010 census, and about $8,500 per year more than the median salary in the USA.
The report found that home decorators are highly educated, with high school graduation rates of 91 percent, and high college graduation rates at 85 percent.
They also have more experience than other professions in terms for training, said lead author Dr. Naima El-Shawah, an associate professor of sociology at Hebrew University.
“There are a lot of young professionals who want to enter this profession, especially young women,” she said.
“In contrast to other professions, the home design profession has very little access to the capital and thus it can be very difficult for young women to get their start.
They are less likely to have the financial support they need for a start, and they often end up not having enough money for housing.”
The study also found that in the African cities of Goma, Nairobi, and Kinshasa, home decorating is very popular among young professionals.
The survey found that while the wages of home decorator are higher in the urban centres of Africa, the salaries of interior designers are much lower.
In Kinsas, for example, the median wage for a household with two people is about $40,000, compared to about $80,000 in Goma.
In Goma alone, the average salary is $40 a month, compared with $52 a month in Kinsha.
The authors also found an increasing number of young people seeking to become home decoraters, but in spite of this, the rates of graduation and experience are low.
For home decoraters, the study found that they are still a relatively new profession, but they are becoming more popular in the city centers.
The most popular profession among young home decorates in the study was interior decoration, which had a median age of 27 years old, and an average salary of $70,000.
That figure is almost twice as high as the median age for interior designers in the cities of Nairobs, Goma and Kipa, where the median salaries are $60,000 and $60 a month.
The second most popular occupation among home decorated households in the survey was interior design.
The median salary for interior design professionals was $51,500, which is roughly $10,000 less than the $65,000 average salary for the same occupation in the capital cities of Kinsa and Goma in 2015.
Home decorating also has a high rate of unemployment, with the unemployment rate for interior decorateurs was about 13 percent in 2015 according to the census.
The survey found a total of 3.2 million people in the country are employed in the interior decor profession.
“The reason why home decor has not taken off in Africa is not that they don’t want to become designers, but because they do not have the necessary skills to become professionals,” said El-Kawah.
